A word from Emirates NBD Bank PJSC

  • “We needed a fully integrated, highly scalable and flexible solution to meet multiple requirements, and Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 delivers. We had excellent results with Oracle Human Resources in the past and decided to continue our positive Oracle experience with the rollout of supplementary modules. And, with Oracle’s clear leadership in fusion and cloud applications, we have a technology partner for many years to come.” – Mohammed Marzook, Domain Manager ‒ IT Enterprise Applications, Emirates NBD Bank PJSC

  • Post 1 million financial transactions per day from various subsystems to Oracle Financials with absolute reliability to avoid shutting down interfaces of systems, such as the core banking application for up to 48 hours
  • Establish a single database for more than 9,000 Oracle E-Business Suite users located around the world, in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Great Britain, Singapore, Jersey, India, and China to optimize resource management and ensure business continuity
  • Optimize performance, learning, and recruitment management to ensure that bank personnel are fully qualified and comply with corporate banking industry operating procedures and requirements
  • Ensure the availability of human resources (HR) self services when more than a thousand employees simultaneously connect to conduct tasks, such as booking training courses, applying for vacation leave, or looking for employment vacancies

  • Upgraded to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 to increase the efficiency of finance, HR, and supply chain management processes across all bank branches with an integrated, single instance enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution
  • Worked with Oracle Consulting to complete one of the largest Oracle E-Business Suite deployments in the Middle East in terms of transaction volume and number of integrated applications, ensuring fully automated workflows—including for in-house-developed property management, timesheet, and costing applications
  • Ensured reliable financial transaction reporting from various subsystems and Oracle Financials—a mission-critical requirement because open-treasury positions that Oracle Financials reports on drive every process in the bank
  • Enabled the bank to develop extensions for specific areas not covered by Oracle E-Business Suite, such as loan management, at low cost and under the Oracle support umbrella, ensuring that all ERP functions are centralized in Oracle E-Business Suite—without the need to purchase additional software or hardware
  • Analyzed performance of more than 9,000 employees 80% faster after automating workflows—such as using personal scorecards to track employee objectives—with Oracle Performance Management, empowering HR executives to better monitor performance plans and their alignment with organizational goals
  • Optimized recruiting management with Oracle iRecruitment’s advanced assessment, referral, and agency functionalities that are monitored through dashboards, enabling the bank to fill vacancies with the most qualified professionals without using specialized, third-party applications or adding to the HR department’s workload
  • Used Oracle Payroll to increase efficiency and save valuable HR resources by issuing electronic payroll slips for more than 9,000 employees instead of printing and archiving paper-based documents
  • Allocated freed IT budgets to more strategic areas—such as identifying if the bank’s IT staff lacks specific technical skills that it can remedy with learning courses
  • Established a fully stable environment with the latest releases of Oracle Database and Oracle E-Business Suite, ensuring system availability and stability as well as optimum support to mitigate business risks

Why Oracle

“Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 offers amazing flexibility—in addition to a robust set of standard features and unlimited scalability. If something is not available out-of-the-box, Oracle’s framework allows you to build any extension without incurring further license costs or buying additional hardware. We developed a number of extensions under the Oracle umbrella and they are all supported by Oracle. Last but not least, Oracle offers true end-to-end IT solutions that no one else can provide. Today, we have everything on premises, but in the future we will establish a hybrid solution or move entirely to the cloud. The only manufacturer capable of offering proven and robust solutions in this area is Oracle. It is many years ahead of the competition,” said Paul Butres, senior project manager, Oracle ERP Applications, Emirates NBD Bank PJSC.

Implementation Process

Oracle Consulting performed the initial rollout of Oracle Human Resources 2007. At that point, Emirates NBD Bank was the first company in the Middle East to implement Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. The bank worked with Oracle Platinum partner Mahindra Satyam for the next phase, which included deploying Oracle Financials and Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning. An in-house team upgraded to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 and implemented Oracle iLearning, Oracle iProcurement, Oracle iRecruitment, and Oracle Performance Management. Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 and Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, 11g went live in June 2012 after five months of preparation.
