Challenges

A word from F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd.

  • "With Oracle Database Enterprise Edition and the Management Packs we are perfectly enabled to optimize the Global Oracle Data Warehouse accordingly to our requirements." – Andreas Witzmann, Integration Architect, BI Competence Center, F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd.

  • Consolidate the more than 50 different data warehouse (DWH) environments required to meet the company’s global information and reporting needs
  • Provide a complete overview of the pharmaceutical division for non-scientific data in the DWH, plus a single point of truth for data
  • Provide pharmaceutical master data as well as basic master data for country lists, cost centers or currencies as basis for data integration in the DWH
  • Prevent redundant development of similar solutions
  • Control the growing number of reporting applications on a local, regional, and global basis, which had led to a very high level of development, maintenance, and administration work

Solutions

  • Developed best practice guides covering methods and standards for the integrated solution based on blueprints from Oracle Partner Trivadis AG and then installed and implemented the DWH framework using Oracle Database, Enterprise Edition plus various Oracle management packs
  • Trained more than 100 DWH developers to use the integrated environment and deployed 30 projects already based on the new framework, with plans to migrate other DWH environments successively
  • Provided all master data from an internal  master data management system
  • Ensured flexible integration of global, regional, and local data to avoid redundant development
  • Achieved significant cost reduction for the development, maintenance, and administration of the DWH environment
