Challenges

A word from FCF Fishery Co., Ltd

  • “As a worldwide supplier of high-quality seafood products, FCF Fishery always does its best to provide value-added services to customers and suppliers. Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne products are necessary to support our global fishing operations and provide a way for us to deliver customer-centered service in a sustainable manner.” – Li Zhangyan, Assistant Manager, FCF Fishery Co., Ltd

  • Implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that supports global operations and meets the unique requirements of the fishing industry, such as tracking varying sea conditions that have impact on the types and number of fish caught, as well as payment terms (which are often negotiated in advance)
  • Ensure the system has the flexibility to address evolving customer requirements, different fish suppliers, diverse communications channels, and means of payment
  • Establish standardized internal processes to avoid situations where fishing vessels can simply call any FCF Fishery employee to obtain fuel and other services
  • Integrate sales and financials systems to eliminate the need for the finance department to manually input data and create accounting spreadsheets
  • Calculate in advance the costs of fuel, insurance, port charges, and freezer ship rental, and apportion the costs to individual cargo batches

Solutions

  • Engaged Oracle Consulting to implement modules from Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne suite, completing the implementation in six months, with the system live since May 2010
  • Leveraged Oracle Consulting’s understanding of the fish trading and logistics industry to build a flexible ERP system tailored to the needs of the fishing business
  • Improved customer service and gained internal control by establishing standard pre-application and auditing processes for customer transactions to make it easier to assess customers’ credentials and approve their applications
  • Recorded suppliers’ financial information, such as down payments, accounts payable, and deductible amounts, into an account card subsystem, giving them peace of mind that their financial details are being accurately maintained by FCF Fishery
  • Allowed the finance department to focus on auditing accounts for financial anomalies, as the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne system can automatically produce accounts payable and accounts receivable reports after the relevant data has been entered by the purchasing and sales departments
  • Enabled financial reports to be produced at the beginning of each month, shortening the process by an average of three working days
  • Produced accurate, up-to-date management reports on all aspects of the company’s fishing operations instantly to assist in decision-making
  • Achieved more accurate cost estimations using the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne system to calculate the cost of purchased fishery products, gross profit, service fees, and apportioned costs in greater detail
  • Ensured each service request from seafood suppliers and sales transaction with customers is immediately recorded to build a complete supplier or customer transaction history

Why Oracle
