Challenges

A word from Fortum

  • "Our Oracle PeopleSoft Human Resources solution helped to streamline our competency-evaluation and personal-development processes, moving us closer to Fortum’s goal to be a more productive and profitable company.” – Sandra Skoglund, Manager Human Resources System Solutions, Fortum

  • Introduce a human resources (HR) system to support an internal program, Fortum Career Development Framework, which serves as the foundation for several HR processes and provides tools that help managers and HR in their daily work
  • Support Fortum’s core business with improved HR processes to reach its goal to be a more productive and profitable company in areas such as hydro, nuclear, and wind power
  • Give managers a 360-degree view of their subordinates and their competency strengths and gaps, both in the team and individually, and support managers’ and HR’s ability to take efficient actions to improve competency in the organization
  • Enable a more structured approach to performance-enhancement and streamline development discussions between managers and employees
  • Determine the design of connected HR processes, such as recruiting, career planning, and succession planning

Solutions

  • Implemented new modules in the company’s existing PeopleSoft Human Resources application from Oracle—which the company calls eProfile and which supports processes for competency evaluation, and ePerformance, used for personal development plans—all part of the internal Fortum Career Development Framework program
  • Clarified and provided greater transparency around required competencies for employees in their professional roles now and in the future, and improved managers’ and HR’s ability to start development actions to support competency strengths and activities to close identified competency gaps
  • Streamlined the development discussion process between managers and employees, and made them more efficient, with the Oracle-based eProfile and ePerformance providing information as the basis for the discussions
  • Created a foundation for further development of connected HR processes, such as recruiting, career planning, and succession planning
  • Laid a foundation to reach and support Fortum’s goal to be a more productive and profitable company in areas such as hydropower, nuclear power, and wind power, because of its improved HR activities

Why Oracle

“After analysis and recommendations, it was decided by the HR Management team that the new solution should be supported by Fortum’s PeopleSoft Human Resources application, which is our strategic system to source all HR master information,” said Sandra Skoglund, manager human resources system solutions, Fortum.
