Challenges

A word from Isolux Corsán México SA

  • “Oracle Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management is head and shoulders above other solutions, such as Microsoft Project. No other system is as robust as Primavera, which gives us alerts and rich capabilities to manage each construction stage.” – Ruben Pacheco Medina, Project Control Manager, Isolux Corsán México SA

  • Develop a comprehensive project management system to support construction of a sulfur recovery plant, including design, equipment purchasing, construction, and bringing the facility into operation
  • Ensure on time and budget completion of the plant achieving daily control of base activities for the entire project, both for designing the plant and for purchase of various materials, from cement to machinery, and control each stage of construction

Solutions

  • Deployed Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management to effectively manage construction of a sulfur recovery plant for Petróleos de Mexico (PEMEX), including tasks such as designing the plant, purchasing equipment, executing construction, and implementing the plant’s operation, enabling Isolux to complete the project on time and on budget
  • Gained timely and real-time project information enabling managers to make more informed decisions about costs and timelines
  • Replaced a spreadsheet-based solution with an automated solution, which simplifies project design and control
  • Avoided project delays and budget overages by carefully coordinating the delivery of construction materials and equipment critical for plant operation―much of which is imported and has long lead times, such as reactors, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and air compressors
  • Gained the information needed to quickly identify potential budget or timeline deviations and rapidly address them to minimize risks
  • Shared step-by-step project progress with PEMEX and improved ability to control time and budget allocations for each stage

Why Oracle

Isolux Corsán México SA implemented Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management to support construction of a sulfur recovery plant for PEMEX, which already used the program, enabling the two companies to collaborate and jointly manage project progress using a single platform.

“Without Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management, we would have required more resources to manage this project and would not have had the comprehensive visibility that it provides. We could not have completely integrated costs, and we would have had had to use multiple tools to collect and consolidate information about various construction activities,” said Ruben Pacheco Medina, Project Control Manager for Isolux Corsán México. “We will definitely use Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management for future construction projects.”

Implementation Process

Grupo Isolux Corsán acquired Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management in May 2010, and had the solution in production by July 2010. The group completed the implementation in house and worked with Oracle Partner Sistemas Tecnológicos para la Construcción SA de CV (Systec) for training.

Partner

Isolux Corsán México purchased Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management from Systec, which also provided training to both basic and advanced users at Isolux Corsán México and PEMEX.

“Systec is great and has helped us tremendously. It has significant experience with Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management, and it always reinforces our confidence in the solution and allows us to optimize the benefits it provides. Even after we completed the training, Systec was available and eager to help whenever needed,” said Ruben Pacheco Medina, Project Control Manager for Isolux Corsán México.
