  • Establish a strategic platform to deliver self-service, enterprisewide, multidimensional and cross-functional data analysis and reporting capabilities to gain greater insight across five faculties, more than 50 departments and 2,000 employees
  • Improve ability to meet UK government Office for Fair Access requirements for reporting the number of students enrolled from targeted schools
  • Expand access to business intelligence capabilities with an easy-to-use system to meet growing requirements across the university

Solutions

  • Started universitywide analytics and reporting by implementing Oracle Business Intelligence Suite, Enterprise Edition Plus to replace multiple, disparate spreadsheet-based tools with one central, strategic reporting platform
  • Used the business warehouse and data modeling tools to build customized, higher education-specific analytics to track and report on key performance indicators, such as the percentage of student acceptances against offers made and success in attracting research grants
  • Analyzed reports produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency to compare Imperial with other universities across the United Kingdom
  • Simplified and accelerated process for confirming offers for a place on Imperial undergraduate courses, with staff drawing from an OBIEE dashboard, updated hourly, rather than multiple spreadsheets as before, to identify whether there is a space available in class on a timely basis
  • Improved management of an outreach program that encourages talented students from any background to apply to Imperial with the help of cleaner, more reliable data and improvements in tracking, evaluation and reporting
  • Enabled business users to produce their own reports quickly and easily, freeing up two or three full time employees to focus on more strategic initiatives, planning and evaluation
  • Provided the potential to enable long-term tracking throughout the student lifecycle―from recruitment through alumni status―to better meet changing student needs and future requirements from the Office for Fair Access.
  • Linked student information from multiple sources by student ID number to support expanded helpdesk capabilities

Oracle Business Intelligence Suite, Enterprise Edition Plus is used for Imperial’s analytics and reporting. It is used widely across the university to link data sets, gain deeper insight, and improve reporting capability.

Imperial chose Oracle Business Intelligence, Enterprise Edition Plus because it is easy to use. The college’s previous systems didn’t have the capacity to produce the type of reports that business users can now create for themselves. In addition, it enables much greater control, both over Imperial’s data and the planning and evaluation of the college’s outreach activity.
