Schmalz has its headquarters in Germany, and, with 15 subsidiaries, it employs 650 persons worldwide.
Schmalz has used Oracle’s Agile product lifecycle management application suite for many years to faciliate simple product data management. The solution archives all product-defined data, according to a standard structure, based on product catalogues, ensuring easy location and interconnections recognition. The company’s computer-aided design (CAD) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system—ABAS—accesses data stored in Agile, such as packing notes, technical specifications, attributes, standards, and classifications, through one-off data capture. Agile documents the history of each product, including drafts, modifications, and different versions. All products are multilingually managed by Agile, which also automates stock management for the online shop and product catalogs. Agile product lifecycle management and Oracle WebLogic Server aid with document management, the company can manage all product-related documents in Agile product lifecycle management, with the ERP system serving as a bidirectional interface to Agile.
To ensure that Schmalz works with the latest technology and to consolidate processes on a single global standard, Schmalz upgraded to Agile product lifecycle management e6.1.2 in 2012. The new version is 64-bit capable, and thus is a prerequisite for operating Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010, which were introduced at Schmalz in 2012. The 64-bit technology delivers more central memory and thus higher performance for CAD, which in turn optimizes production processes.
