“I take the information part of my title very seriously and am dedicated to delivering information to our management team and our end users. With Oracle Exalytics, I believe we will be able to deliver data faster and give users an improved experience in terms of the interactive visualization. I am excited about the potential for Oracle Exalytics to take business intelligence at Key Energy Services to the next level.” – John Hood, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Key Energy Services
To drive strategic business operations, more than 350 of Key’s business users rely on Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. Over the last two years, the company has taken its business intelligence (BI) system to a high level of maturity. Today, to further advance its BI capabilities, Key is part of the technology preview program testing Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine.
In testing, Key realized a five-fold improvement in database query performance with Oracle Exalytics. Another important feature tested by Key was interactive visualization, which enables users to rapidly slice and dice information all the way from the highest levels to the most detailed levels of information. This insight, which would be impossible on the legacy system, will be especially useful for business analysts, who currently spend a great deal of time downloading data from Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
Another initiative Key is implementing involves creating custom dashboards in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. Vice President and Chief Information Officer John Hood believes Oracle Exalytics will enable Key to complete this work “on steroids.” For example, the company hopes to be able to correlate data on various topics, such as financial performance, profitability, and safety to identify the strongest performing districts in the company and use their experiences to help coach other districts. In addition, Oracle Exalytics cuts down the time required to develop dashboards by eliminating the need for aggregate data tables, which Hood expects will help Key deliver highly interactive dashboards to users faster. Finally, an important benefit Hood sees in Oracle Exalytics is the simple user interface, which cuts out a step in running queries due to its interactivity features.
