Korea Enterprise Data Consolidates 20 Servers to One Platform, Improves System Response Time by 20x, and Lowers Total Cost of Ownership

Korea Enterprise Data (KED) is a leading supplier of business credit reports on Korean midsize enterprises, including credit evaluations and ratings, financial statements, and credit history checks. It has the most comprehensive knowledge base on midsize enterprises in Korea, using 4.6 million enterprise information databases and a nationwide network of 250 credit research specialists and branches to perform its credit searches and analyses.

KED, which is jointly financed by government agencies and private finance companies, is a member of the international CreditAlliance network. It also partners with the world-renowned credit ratings agencies Standard & Poor’s and SINOSURE of China.  KED anticipated a 4x surge in credit services for midsize enterprise information, credit searches, and data assessments from banks and other financial agencies. It required a highly reliable, secure, and sophisticated credit analysis system to store and manage large volumes of sensitive data, such as customers’ credit histories, and to rapidly respond to credit inquiry or evaluation requests from its banking and financial-institution customers.

The company implemented Oracle’s SPARC T4-4 server with Oracle SuperCluster T4-4 to consolidate 20 servers into a single platform, and built a next-generation credit analysis system to improve data quality and reliability. KED also deployed Oracle’s Sun ZFS Storage 7420 and Sun ZFS Storage 7320 appliances to provide data storage and backup for Oracle SuperCluster. The company improved system response time by 20x, completed data backups 7x faster, achieved 10x data compression, and improved customer satisfaction.

KED needed a stable credit analysis system to ensure credit-inquiry services’ smooth processing and providing reliable credit information to customers on time. For example, KED must deliver clear and accurate short-term credit default information to banks to enable small business loan approvals and processing. Delays in receiving the credit information can have a significant impact on the approval process.

Implementation Process

KED began building its business specifications for its infrastructure advancement project in December 2011 and assessed solutions from three vendors.

The company selected Oracle as its preferred supplier, based on the superior performance of Oracle SuperCluster through its benchmark test. It deployed the new environment over a period of eight months, going live in March 2013.
