Paris Lodron Universität is the largest educational institution in the Salzburg region and one of Austria’s major universities. More than 18,000 students are enrolled in its classes, and the university employs approximately 2,700 staff members in research, teaching, and administrative positions. Since its re-establishment in 1962, the university has developed into a modern, vibrant institution whose four departments—theology, law, cultural and social sciences, and natural sciences—meet the highest teaching and research standards. To support matriculation and course registration for its large student body, Paris Lodron Universität operates and maintains an enterprise resource planning system consisting of heterogeneous databases, front-end and back-end applications, and storage systems covering all departments, a system it calls “Campus Online.”
Paris Lodron University of Salzburg was one of the winners of the 2013 Oracle Excellence Award-Eco-Enterprise Innovation, a distinction that honors customers for their use of Oracle products to reduce environmental footprints and improve efficiency with green business practices.
“Paris Lodron Universität has launched a sustainability initiative that focuses on the balance between ecology, people, and economy. Oracle is the only vendor that offers the engineered technologies to raise the level of system efficiency, while using less hardware, floor space, cooling power, and energy. We now have the flexibility to deliver cloud services to our institutes, which, in turn, do not need to operate their own energy-intensive server systems,” said Florin Guma, CIO, Paris Lodron Universität.
