Bordered on the north by Tampa Bay and to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, the School District of Manatee County is home to more than 44,000 students and 5,200 employees. With 34 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, and six high schools, the school district is one of the largest, most successful districts in Florida.
The school district is a long-time user of Oracle’s JD Edwards World application suite. It recently upgraded to JD Edwards World A9.2.1 to take advantage of new application functionality, particularly around encumbrance accounting processes. With the solution, the school district has improved visibility into business data and enhanced service for more than 820 users. For example, it has reduced the time needed to conduct an encumbrance rollover from an entire weekend to just a few hours. The school district has also enabled electronic payment for certain vendors, resulting in $100,000 each year in rebates.
“We have been a long time Oracle/JD Edwards World customer, and our experience with Oracle Premier Support has been very good. If we have any issues at all, the turnaround time is fantastic,” said Beth Goins, systems analyst, School District of Manatee County
The School District of Manatee County started its latest upgrade to Oracle’s JD Edwards World A9.2.1 in July 2010 and went live in April 2011, performing the work completely in house. The team of fewer than 10 internal resources completed the upgrade on time and on budget.
“Oracle really improved the upgrade process by automating more of it, providing easy-to-read screens to walk our team through the steps,” Goins said. “From a technical point of view, the process is much easier. We also benefited from working with our primary Oracle Support contact, who was assigned to assist us throughout the entire process and follow up to ensure any issues we had were resolved.”
