TONG YANG Group was founded in 1957. It consists of 29 subsidiaries, a nonprofit foundation, and a human resources development center. TONG YANG Group’s manufacturing subsidiaries are the main force behind its growth, generating stable revenue by producing specialized products, such as cement mixes and synthetic fibers, as well as generating environmentally friendly thermal power—one of Korea’s key industries. The group also has a number of growing financial, healthcare, and beauty sector subsidiaries, including 14 overseas corporations and nine representative offices outside Korea, with a strong focus on emerging markets, such as Cambodia, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Why Oracle

TONG YANG Group needed a system that would not only provide simple personnel management functions but also enable comprehensive HR management at an enterprise level. The company evaluated HR solutions from SAP and several local vendors but realized Oracle’s PeopleSoft would best meet its requirements.

Implementation Process

TONG YANG Group decided PeopleSoft HCM was the best solution for its integrated HR system in November 2008.

Following an HR Innovation Project in 2009, the group implemented the HR system at its headquarters and subsidiary TONG YANG Securities Inc. in January 2010.

The enterprise HR system went live at all 29 manufacturing, financial, and service subsidiaries, as well as the nonprofit foundation and human resources development center, in November 2011.


TONG YANG Group worked with its IT services subsidiary, Oracle Partner TONG YANG Networks Co., Ltd., to implement PeopleSoft Human Resources, PeopleSoft Recruiting Solutions, PeopleSoft Payroll, and PeopleSoft ePerformance. As TONG YANG Networks is a subsidiary, it fully understood the Group’s HR system and provided suitable support.
