Triple Point Technology is a leading global provider of cloud and on-premise commodity management software that delivers advanced analytics to optimize end-to-end commodity and energy value chains. The company provides real-time solutions to competitively address the complex and volatile commodities supply chain: buying, selling, trading, and procurement; enterprise risk management; scheduling and logistics; storage; processing; and settlement and accounting. Triple Point’s commodity management platform enables more than 400 customers in more than 35 countries to profitably manage exposure to energy and raw materials across numerous industries.
Seventy percent of the world’s largest commodity trading organizations—some of which have billions of positions—have chosen Triple Point solutions. These organizations have a critical need for real-time information, but such extreme volumes can create bottlenecks within a company’s hardware infrastructure. To optimize performance for the world’s largest commodity traders, Triple Point implemented an Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2 Quarter Rack and Half Rack, as well as an Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud X2-2 Quarter Rack. Specifically, Triple Point was looking for a solution that would provide its largest customers with high-performance trading and risk-management capabilities that exceed performance growth requirements and enable it to shorten the end-of-day portfolio-valuation times.
To validate and certify the performance of Triple Point’s solutions on Oracle Exadata, Triple Point conducted a rigorous performance test, setting an industry record by processing a portfolio of one million trades in less than one hour. These trades included oil, natural gas, and power transactions, and spanned several instrument types, including futures and swaps. Triple Point also ran a basket of 166,386 agricultural trades that achieved record performance.
By running its solutions on Oracle Exadata, Triple Point’s largest commodity-trading customers can expect the fastest performance times for end-of-day valuations, query responses, and batch reporting.
“Oracle enables us to optimize our solutions for companies dealing with exceptionally large amounts of data. Minimal new code is needed to run our commodity-trading solution on Oracle Exadata and Exalogic. We have an advanced technology team that has its eye on the future, and when it started to work with Oracle, it found a similar vision. Our team has a tremendous relationship with Oracle,” said Doug Daugherty, senior vice president, chief technology officer, Triple Point Technology.
Triple Point achieved Oracle Exadata Optimized and Exalogic Optimized status through the Oracle PartnerNetwork. In achieving this status, the application was fully tested and is now certified as supported on Oracle Exadata Database Machine.
