Washington College is a liberal arts and sciences college on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. With a student population of 1,400, Washington College is the only institution with permission from George Washington to use his name. Its heritage as the first college of the new nation lives on today in Washington College’s commitment to educating confident citizen leaders, poised to make the world a better place.
Washington College was running two critical systems—its Blackboard learning management system and its CS Gold campus ID card system—on Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. The college had contracted its use of Oracle Database through a third-party provider that was not leading the college in the right direction, as the institution was not in compliance with its licenses, which could ultimately lead to support and performance issues with the systems that the college relied on daily to provide service to students, faculty, and staff.
Washington College connected with Oracle License Management Services to rectify the issue. Working closely with a senior license consultant from Oracle, the college completed a successful licensing audit and ensured that it had the right license in place—enabling the institution to license the database out to users to support additional projects, like research initiatives.
“We’re a small institution and funding is limited. I was truly happy to have a direct Oracle relationship. I could have had so much more support and help had I originally worked directly with Oracle to manage my licenses. Our representative from Oracle License Management Services was wonderful. She took the time to listen and followed through right to the very end, connecting us with our new Oracle representative, with whom we also have a great relationship,” said Billie Dodge, chief information officer, Washington College.
