Java 7 Officially Launches

On July 7, 2011, Oracle hosted a live global event to celebrate the upcoming launch of Java 7. With contributions from Java users around the world, Java Platform, Standard Edition 7 (Java SE) 7 is an affirmation of the vibrancy of the Java community and of Oracle's ongoing commitment to the language and technology. And today, Java SE 7 is officially released.

The Java SE 7 release is the result of nearly five years of industry-wide development involving open review, weekly builds and extensive collaboration between Oracle engineers and members of the worldwide Java community via the OpenJDK project. Over the past year the OpenJDK community has continued to grow, including the addition of major vendors such as IBM and Apple. In June Oracle announced that the Java SE 7 Reference Implementation will be based entirely on the OpenJDK open source code.

Over 200 Java User Groups (JUGs) worldwide are celebrating the release of Java 7 by hosting member events through September to mark this important step in Java's evolution.
