mobilkom austria group Deploys Oracle for Next-Generation Communications Services

Leading Mobile Service Provider Accelerates Creation and Deployment of Innovative Services with Oracle® Communications Converged Application Server

SDP Global Summit, Prague, Czech Republic – Sept. 16, 2008

News Facts

Leading mobile service provider in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), mobilkom austria group (mag), has deployed Oracle® Communications Converged Application Server, formerly named BEA WebLogic SIP Server, (See related announcement) to underpin its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services layer and deliver innovative, new services to its 16.5 million mobile customers.
By utilizing Oracle Communications Converged Application Server as part of its open, standards-based IMS services layer, mobilkom austria group will be able to blend and extend new services across its entire network, building out revenue-generating applications to enhance existing revenue streams and create new ones.
Oracle Communications Converged Application Server delivers support for service-oriented architectures, the latest Web standards – such as Java Enterprise Edition 5 (Java EE 5) – and telecommunications protocols – such as the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Servlet 1.1 specification, Java Specification Request (JSR) 289, and IMS – in a single application server. This provides mobilkom austria group with a reliable, scalable platform that allows developer and service provider partners to easily design, develop and deploy emerging services extremely rapidly and cost-effectively.
mobilkom austria group has also been able to bring innovative and uniquely differentiating IMS services to market faster by leveraging the agility and innovation of external developer communities. As such, the mobile operator has managed to launch innovative services very cost efficiently by deploying the Oracle Communications Converged Application Server in its IP-based network.
One new mobilkom austria group IMS-based service, developed and deployed on Oracle Communications Converged Application Server and already in production in Austria, Croatia and Bulgaria, is “mag over IP.” This new service enables end users to send and receive voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) calls on their PCs or laptops as though they were using their mobile phones. This provides end-users with greater flexibility in the way they manage incoming and outgoing calls – while continuing to benefit from unified billing, as well as realizing new functionality such as IMS-based multi-ring that allows one phone number to ring all of an individual user’s mobile and VoIP devices.
At the same time they can enjoy all the advantages of VoIP communications, including real-time multimedia communications, fixed-mobile convergence and increased cost savings.
The mobilkom austria group is represented in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, including mobilkom austria in Austria, Velcom in Belarus, Mobiltel in Bulgaria, Vipnet in Croatia, Si.mobil in Slovenia, mobilkom liechtenstein, Vip mobile in Serbia and Vip operator in Macedonia.
