Taobao.com Implements Oracle Grid Computing to Support Future Business and Data Warehouse Growth
Beijing – January 12, 2009
News Facts
Taobao.com, China's largest online consumer-to-consumer (C2C) marketplace with more than 83 million registered users and over 80 percent of China’s C2C online shopping market share (1), deployed Oracle Database and Oracle Real Application Clusters to support its new data warehousing architecture.
Oracle Real Application Clusters, an option to Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, supports the deployment of a single database across a cluster of servers—providing fault tolerance, performance and scalability with no application changes necessary.
To cope with the exponential growth in its business and data volume, Taobao.com used Oracle grid computing to easily scale out from its initial four-node cluster to its present 12-node cluster, with the capability to add more Oracle Real Application Cluster nodes in the future.
The implementation of an Oracle grid architecture provides Taobao.com with a strong and scalable data warehouse foundation for business intelligence. This enhances Taobao.com’s data analysis and reporting capabilities, enabling more accurate and timely decision-making and effective operations management across its departments.
By relying on Oracle for its data warehouse, the company is able to achieve twice the performance of its previous database in completing searches and queries, improving website response times and enhancing customer satisfaction.
