New Mexico Public Education Department Joins Forces With Oracle Academy to Prepare Rural Students for 21st Century Careers

Redwood Shores, CA and Santa Fe, NM – March 10, 2009
The New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) has joined forces with the Oracle Academy, Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell, and General Communication, Inc. (GCI) to launch an innovative distance learning program that will help rural New Mexico students develop the technology and business skills needed for 21st century careers.
During the pilot phase of the program, 22 students from four rural school districts will complete Oracle Academy curriculum via online and real-time instructional video. Participating districts include Animas Public Schools, Cloudcroft Municipal Schools, Corona Public Schools, and Dexter Public Schools. The Oracle Academy curriculum focuses on database design and programming skills, and is delivered over two semesters in high schools, colleges, and vocational schools globally. There is no cost to the state or to students in this program.
Participating students will receive concurrent credit from Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell, facilitating a seamless pathway to higher education degrees.
Currently, more than 89,000 students from 800 educational institutions across the U..S benefit from their participation in the Oracle Academy.
