Oracle® Launches New Continuous Delivery Model for PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions
First Enhancement Pack Continues Path Toward Service-Oriented Architecture

To support its higher education customers today and help prepare them to better meet student, faculty and staff needs tomorrow, Oracle has launched a new Continuous Delivery Model for PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions. Under this model, Oracle plans to deliver periodic application Feature Packs for PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions when available. The Feature Packs are designed to enable institutions to access and implement new functionality to meet immediate needs while migrating gradually to the infrastructure they need to leverage newer, more robust and flexible technologies.
With the Continuous Delivery Model, Oracle expects to enable higher education institutions to move away from reliance on more costly, disruptive major upgrades for their mission-critical student information systems and create a more flexible innovation cycle with Feature Packs.
The first of these Feature Packs, Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions 9.0 Feature Pack 1, is available now. Feature Pack 1 includes business user benefits and continues to extend the service-oriented architecture (SOA) foundation that is driving the evolution to the next generation of higher education applications.
Continuous Delivery Model Details
Based on customer feedback, the Continuous Delivery Model is designed to minimize operational disruption and capital costs that higher education institutions often experience with major upgrades to their student information systems, helping customers to accelerate return on investment. The Feature Packs are intended to help IT teams more quickly respond to constituent needs by allowing them to activate various features when they are ready, so they can prioritize based on demand.
Demonstrating its commitment to modernizing the application’s architecture, Oracle plans to continue to build SOA-based features into the Feature Packs. By evolving the PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions SOA footprint, Oracle expects to deliver next-generation functionality while supporting existing implementations and helping higher education customers avoid high costs and risks.
Oracle’s first Feature Pack for PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions delivers constituent data management improvements for both technology and business users.
Evidence of the commitment to a SOA, the Feature Pack includes a new Constituent Web Service that leverages the interoperability and reusability of Web services to support the integration of constituent data between PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions and other systems in an institution’s IT environment, from housing and parking systems to identity management tools.
The Feature Pack also includes a new External Search/Match feature, which improves a user’s ability to search for constituents – including students, faculty and staff – in systems outside of PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions. This enables users to search a centralized “person repository,” or constituent hub, which helps minimize duplicate constituent data across various systems.
The Feature Pack also includes a new Affiliations feature, which allows institutions to define and create numerous affiliations to represent the changing roles that constituents have as they move through an institution – such as basic roles (prospective student, student, employee, alumni, etc.) or more specific (English major, faculty advisor, basketball player, etc.). The Feature Pack not only allows institutions to define their own affiliations, such as when a student becomes an alumni, but also automatically adds or removes affiliations based on these definitions, instead of requiring users to make these changes manually across various systems. This gives institutions greater insight into individuals’ relationships with them, helping to save time and improve the institutions’ ability to interact with each constituent.

These new features reflect the ongoing close collaboration between Oracle and the HEUG, specifically through the working groups that they have established to examine these issues.”
