The Ministry of Finance of Mozambique Selects Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management to Power Online Taxpayer Registration Portal
Solution to Support Taxpayer Registration Increase from 1 Million to 5 Million
Redwood Shores, CA – July 21, 2009
The Ministry of Finance of Mozambique (MdFDM) recently selected Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management to replace an inflexible, paper-based taxpayer registration process. The new software is expected to help increase efficiency and effectiveness of tax collection and improve taxpayer service to drive an increase in taxpayer registrations
MdFDM, which currently serves one million registered taxpayers and 50,000 businesses, initiated this project to modernize the government’s tax collection process as part of its e-governance initiative, which will also include implementation of government resource planning and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
There are 21 million citizens in Mozambique, many of whom consider it their duty to pay taxes, even though some have to walk up to 100 kilometers to the nearest tax office. With Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management, MdFDM will have a single view of taxpayer data and all transactional history, and will be able to provide its citizens and corporations with a self-service portal for online registration. MdFDM hopes to utilize its Web portal to increase the number of registered citizens from 1 million to 5 million. This will help MdFDM increase collections and revenue – a key enabler to growing the economy of Mozambique and developing the nation in a self-sustaining manner.
Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management will also enable the Ministry of Finance to more efficiently and effectively respond to changes in tax law and policy. The organization will work with Oracle Consulting and Escopil International on the implementation.
“Oracle is committed to providing tax authorities with the flexible and affordable solutions they need to maintain efficiency, and its standards-based platform and pre-built integrations allow for easy configuration to meet unique requirements. We are pleased that Mozambique’s Ministry of Finance selected Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management to deliver a comprehensive offering that allows the organization to configure tax processes to meet its needs while maintaining flexibility,” said John Andrus, vice president and general manager, Oracle Tax Global Business Unit.
“We chose Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management as it is the first of its kind – a commercial-off-the-shelf integrated tax solution – meaning it is upgradeable, configurable and easy to maintain. This will allow our organization to achieve higher productivity with a lower total cost of ownership,” said Carlos Jessen, Director, Technical Unit for Financial Administration Reform, The Ministry of Finance of Mozambique.
