Customers Select Oracle Database 11g to Improve Application Performance, Lower IT Costs, and Scale to Meet Data Growth Requirements
Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif. – October 13, 2009
The world’s leading organizations, across multiple industries, continue to turn to Oracle® Database 11g including Agenor Technology Limited, Athens International Airport, Grupo Elektra, the i-engineers, Ministry of Justice (U.K.), among many others.
Oracle Database 11g Powers Production Environments
Agenor Technology Limited is an independent IT consultancy and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution provider based in the U.K. Agenor selected Oracle Database 11g for its availability and manageability to power ICEflo--its SaaS solution which helps users reduce the risk of IT systems by enabling them to document and manage every step of an IT upgrade, deployment or migration. ICEflo can help companies save between 10 percent to 20 percent of their costs and efforts in the preparation phase of a change project, and help companies save 20 percent or more of effort during an implementation. Agenor anticipates over 10,000 ICEflo subscribers within five years of its launch.
The Athens International Airport initiated operations on March 28th, 2001 marking the onset of a new era for air transport in Greece. Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters along with Automatic Storage Management and Clusterware provide the foundation for the airport’s central management system as well as its ERP system – the Oracle E-Business Suite R11. Oracle Active Data Guard will also be deployed to offload reporting to previously idle standby systems enabling performance gains across its production environments.
Grupo Elektra, S.A. de C.V. operates as a specialty retailing, consumer finance, and banking and financial services company in Mexico and Latin America. It sells consumer electronics, white goods, cellular telephones, personal computers, household appliances, and furniture through its Elektra, Salinas y Rocha, and Bodega de Remates store formats. Oracle Database 11g is used to provide the performance and reliability required for Grupo Elektra’s business applications.
Switzerland-based i-engineers have extended their universal archive product “health engine” using Oracle Database 11g’s DICOM medical imaging feature. The health engine provides a 360-degree patient view in the form of secure electronic health care records that feature relevant patient medical images, and serves an archive for all hospital applications and data generating systems. The health engine solution with the DICOM extension is in use at Spital Netz Bern (a network of Swiss regional hospitals) with several other Swiss hospitals approaching production status as well.
The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice in the United Kingdom. Charged with protecting the public and reducing reoffending, NOMS recently upgraded to Oracle Database 11g with the help of Oracle Certified Advantage Partner Beyond Systems Limited. Users of NOMS experienced an immediate performance improvement of 30 percent, and with over three million offender assessments to manage, Oracle Advanced Compression was deployed to compress data across production, backup and test systems. In addition, NOMS helps ensure the privacy of offender assessments by implementing data encryption with Oracle Advanced Security.
“Embedding Oracle Database 11g into ICEflo has enabled us to bring to market a unique, next-generation implementation management solution that revolutionizes IT change management while cutting cost and risk for organizations of all sizes,” said Andy Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Agenor Technology Limited.
“Our primary concern is to be customer-oriented—to add value to our internal and external customers. In order to do so, we selected best of breed solutions for our mission critical IT systems and run on well-defined standard operating procedures based on the industries best practices. After investigating our options, we found that Oracle Database 11g’s advanced features were giving us the benefits and competitive advantage in delivering this level of service we promise our customers,” said Nikolaos Papagiannopoulos, supervisor of Enterprise Applications and Databases, Athens International Airport.
"We’ve improved our transaction performance by 500 percent using the PL/SQL Native Compilation feature of Oracle Database 11g. Plus, features such as automated SQL Tuning, SQL Performance Analyzer and Database Replay have enabled us to better collaborate with our developers and make sure our applications run as expected following changes to the database, operating system or hardware,” said Aurelio Saynes Santillan, IT Director - Seguros, Afore & Milenia at Grupo Elektra.
“Our customers demand a high performance platform with 100 percent uptime,” said Peter Summermatter, CEO, i-engineers. “For years now, we’ve been building our solutions on Oracle Database so it was natural that we selected Oracle Database 11g with the DICOM functionality for our health engine solution.”
“Oracle was chosen at the outset of the NOMS project when the operational systems that fed the database were in their infancy,” said David Reid, Database Technology Manager, Beyond Systems. “In just a few years, we’ve gone from zero to three million offender assessments and anticipate another three quarter of a million this year – that represents a growth of 25 percent. Oracle Database 11g has addressed the challenges NOMS previously had around system performance and data growth.”
“The adoption of Oracle Database 11g continues to gather momentum across the globe,“ said William Hardie, vice president of Database Product Marketing, Oracle. “Here are just a few excellent examples of organizations across the private and public sectors that are able to improve IT’s quality of service, and keep costs down by implementing Oracle Database 11g for their business applications.”
