Galeries Lafayette Completes Rollout of Oracle® Retail Platform to All Stores to Support Growth Strategies
French Retailer Optimises Core Retail Functionality at its Department Stores to Deliver Business-Wide Benefits
NRF 99th ANNUAL CONVENTION & EXPO, NEW YORK – January 11, 2010
Galeries Lafayette, one of the world’s largest department stores, has deployed Oracle® Retail applications to create an integrated retail platform to support long-term growth strategies and core merchandising capabilities at its stores.
A household name in France, Galeries Lafayette manages more than 500,000 square metres of store space, including the world’s largest shoe department at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, across its 62 department stores in France and Berlin (Germany).
Galeries Lafayette identified Oracle Retail applications as key to supporting its growth strategies, which include expanding internationally, diversifying its offering, extending its ecommerce platform and consolidating item management across its formats.
These applications were selected to replace the previous legacy system enabling Galeries Lafayette to create a single, scalable and integrated IT platform and a common set of retail processes for its stores.
The Oracle Retail platform has helped enable Galeries Lafayette to centralise control of core merchandising capabilities, delivering improved management and integration of its inventory and replenishment processes.
This has supported enhancements within the supply chain to ensure and optimal flow of goods through the network.
The Oracle Retail applications provide the company’s management with accurate information on each of its stores, delivering data on margin at item per store level. This will help Galeries Lafayette to move from retail to cost accounting methods over the next couple of years.
Centralised activities around merchandise accounting, the ordering and receiving of goods, stock levels, supplier management and invoice matching for Galeries Lafayette has also delivered significant improvements in organizational productivity and data accuracy.
Galeries Lafayette manages more than 4 million items within its department stores and any pricing changes previously created significant transactional volume. The new solution has enhanced retail price control and definition and it now has the capabilities to identify the impact of pricing and manage this process quickly and efficiently.
“The strong partnership with Oracle was a crucial factor to the success of this project, as was board-level engagement and support,” said Laurent Singer, CIO, Galeries Lafayette. “The Oracle Retail platform shall provide our business with the capabilities to manage our business more effectively, and enhance our retail functionality to drive our business forward.”
“Throughout our long relationship with Galeries Lafayette, we have remained committed to learning from and supporting our valued customer through the deployment of our solutions. Our collaborative relationship is helping to drive business growth and enhance the retailer’s decision-making to create long-term competitive advantage,” said Duncan Angove, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail.
