Passenger’s online brand communities help the world’s leading companies garner insight from their customers to drive better business decisions. The communities also play an integral role in facilitating brand-customer relationships and promoting greater customer advocacy. In order to deliver these powerful results, the Passenger application requires highly scalable performance capabilities and continuous operations to provide a consistent user experience and generate real-time insights and analytics.
To meet these technology challenges, Passenger has implemented Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Fusion Middleware solutions, Oracle Coherence and Oracle WebLogic Server 11g. By embedding the products within its own application infrastructure, Passenger will be able to significantly expand the amount of media-rich activities and analytics it can offer to its clients, while making the application more easily compatible with its clients’ existing infrastructures.
Passenger’s recently announced channel partnership program is another key driver behind the Oracle implementation. Digital, full-service and market research agencies partner with Passenger to incorporate private online communities into their social media practices. By implementing Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g solutions, Passenger’s application can more easily integrate with agencies that are also running on Oracle architecture.
Passenger relies on Oracle Coherence to provide the in-memory performance and distributed caching capabilities that help alleviate bottlenecks, reduce data contention and improve Java application responsiveness.
By automatically and dynamically partitioning data in memory across multiple servers, Oracle Coherence enables continuous data availability and transactional integrity, even in the event of a server failure. Oracle Coherence also allows Passenger to scale linearly and dynamically for more predictable performance and improved resource utilization.
Additionally, Oracle Coherence helps ensure Passenger communities do not have any downtime by automatically redistributing cached data across the grid, when a server becomes inoperable or is disconnected from the network.
Oracle WebLogic Server 11g further enhances the efficiency, scalability, availability and total performance of the Passenger application infrastructure.
Passenger leverages the sophisticated, yet readily accessible, administration tools included with Oracle WebLogic Server 11g to automate runtime operations and reduce manual intervention by IT staff.
Oracle Database 11g offers Passenger a high performance, fault-tolerant and secure foundation for its application.
"As our communities and partner network grow, it is imperative that we have the infrastructure in place to support a massive increase in media-rich activities and user traffic,” said Michael Winner, senior vice president of technology, Passenger. “Additionally, as private online communities become more integral to the Social CRM strategies of our clients, we felt it was imperative to bolster our application’s architecture so the communities could easily integrate with existing Social CRM, analytics and sentiment analysis solutions. With Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Coherence and Oracle WebLogic Server 11g as the backbone of our infrastructure, we can now not only continue to offer engaging community activities, but can also increase the scope of the insights and business value they generate.”
“Private online communities are an increasingly popular method for companies to engage with their customers online, and we are pleased that Passenger has chosen Oracle to power its innovative application,” said Cameron Purdy, vice president of Development, Oracle. “Oracle’s solution helps Passenger offer high bandwidth activities such as video streaming and live chats that are needed with their media-rich communities, and we look forward to working with them as they bring their communities to new levels.”
