Oracle Database Appliance Helps Academic Medical Center Enhance Treatment and IT Operations

To achieve more robust, faster insights into the efficacy of treatments and quality of care, Boston Medical Center (BMC), an academic medical center that serves as the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine, has improved the efficiency and performance of its database environment by standardizing on Oracle Database Appliance. With the cost- and resource-effective packaged database system, the medical facility is able to fully support, scale and optimize its clinical and operational data environment.
BMC anticipates that the complete package of software and hardware can deliver significant cost reductions annually in storage, engineering resources and time managing multiple vendors.
Built for out-of-the-box database performance, the Oracle Database Appliance has provided the medical center with more efficient CPU and RAM usage, improving runtime reporting performance by up to 50 percent or more.
By moving to the new platform, BMC was also able to consolidate its data management team to a single Oracle Database Appliance administrator, allowing server and storage engineers to focus on other high priority projects.
Additionally, the unique capacity-on-demand licensing model of the new platform can equip BMC with the flexibility to scale up and down depending on need.
