Redwood Shores, Calif. – April 7, 2011
Oracle today announced its first ever Oracle Solaris Online Forum, which will take place starting at 9:00 am Pacific Time on April 14th, 2011.
Bill Nesheim, vice president, Software Development, Oracle will deliver the strategy update and kick off the comprehensive agenda of presentations and panel discussions, including a presentation by Gary Chen, research manager for System Software, IDC and the exclusive opportunity for attendees to participate in a live chat with Oracle Solaris engineers and product managers.
By attending the Forum, customers, users and ISVs will learn how the latest Oracle Solaris innovations can help run enterprise IT environments more efficiently, with greater availability and the highest level of security.
Oracle Solaris is the #1 enterprise operating system, providing mission-critical availability, security and performance on both SPARC and x86 systems.
The Oracle Solaris Online Forum will highlight the new features and technologies scheduled to be included in Oracle Solaris 11, planned for release later this calendar year.
Oracle Solaris 11 is scheduled to contain more than 2,700 projects with more than 400 innovations and will be the result of more than 20 million person hours of development and over 60 million hours of testing.
Oracle Solaris 11 is being engineered with new capabilities designed to make it ideal for building, deploying and maintaining cloud systems.
Oracle Solaris 11 will add network virtualization and resource management to the complete, built-in virtualization capabilities of Oracle Solaris, providing the highest performance virtualization environment with the lowest overhead.
In addition, Oracle Solaris 11 will provide new installation and deployment technologies, along with a brand new packaging system, to allow for greater flexibility and predictability in software lifecycle management.
“We are very excited to host the very first Oracle Solaris Online Forum to showcase Oracle’s commitment and increased investment in Oracle Solaris, as well as to provide an update on the advanced Oracle Solaris 11 features that have been in development for over five years,” said Markus Flierl, senior director of Oracle Solaris Core OS Development, Oracle. “This unique event will give customers, users and ISVs the opportunity to connect directly with the Oracle Solaris team and discover the benefits they can expect from Oracle Solaris 11 for increasing system availability, delivering unmatched efficiency, performance and scalability, while enjoying greater security.”
“Unix has such a long, rich history and Oracle Solaris has the largest installed base of Unix operating systems today. Moving to the latest version of the operating system is one of the best ways to future-proof an existing OS installation, and thus Oracle Solaris customers need to start evaluating Oracle Solaris 11 today. This forum will also be great for customers to hear about the future of Oracle Solaris directly from Oracle, including how Oracle Solaris integrates into the larger Oracle portfolio," said Gary Chen, research manager for Enterprise Virtualization Software, IDC.
