Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers, announced today, are available as 1-, 2- and 4-socket servers or as a single socket blade server module and are based on the new SPARC T4 processor which features higher clock speeds and a smarter core layout optimized for both throughput and single threaded processing.
This benchmark result delivers 2.4 times more performance than IBM, shattering their best result achieved on POWER7-based servers running IBM WebSphere and DB2 database (2), showcasing the outstanding performance and scalability of the entire Oracle stack, from web server software to storage hardware.
Compared to IBM’s best result, this world record also demonstrates the outstanding performance of the new SPARC T4 processor that delivers 20 percent more work per processor than POWER7 across the configuration. Comparing application server hardware, Oracle’s solution delivers 6.7 times better price/performance with nearly two times better performance per rack unit over IBM’s solution (1,2).
Oracle’s record-breaking configuration, powered by SPARC T4 3 GHz processors, included an application tier with a four-node SPARC T4-4 cluster running Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, and database tier with Oracle Database 11g with Oracle Real Application Clusters running on a two-node SPARC T4-4 cluster with eight Sun Storage F5100 Flash Arrays, achieved 40,104.86 SPECjEnterprise2010 EjOPS (jEnterprise Operations Per Second).
Oracle's solution used Oracle Solaris with Oracle Solaris Containers, demonstrating its ability to consolidate workloads with extreme efficiency, in this case running 16 instances of Oracle WebLogic Server Standard Edition Release 10.3.5 and Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM, the industry-leading Java Virtual Machine.
This world record result demonstrates that SPARC T4 servers running Oracle Solaris with Oracle Solaris Containers are designed for every tier in the enterprise, from web to database, excelling on mission-critical single threaded and highly concurrent workloads and enabling customers to consolidate multiple applications on a single server.
Oracle’s WebLogic Server continues to hold the overall world record and the highest result using a clustered database (1) and the best 2-processor system benchmark in addition to delivering the highest performance per core (3) and per processor (4) of any result ever published on SPECjEnterprise 2010 benchmark.
