GREEN: Marine drone
For every square kilometer of ocean, there are 13,000 pieces of floating plastic. According to the June 2012 edition of Marine Pollution Bulletin, these bits of plastic are doing terrible damage by, among other things, showing up in the stomach contents of beached northern fulmars on the coasts of British Columbia, Canada.
Solving a problem this big requires ideas such as the Marine Drone, a concept developed by industrial design student Elie Ahovi and his team at France’s International School of Design.
The Marine Drone traps plastic in enclosed mesh, using infrasound and sonar to keep fish and other animals away.
