Quest for the Cup, San Francisco, California
When ORACLE TEAM USA won the 33rd America’s Cup with a 2–0 triumph over Swiss defender Alinghi in 2010, they used a state-of-the-art trimaran boat design to seize the trophy. They also won the right to host the next cup race and choose the venue. With its iconic beauty and unparalleled sailing conditions, the San Francisco Bay was the perfect selection. After training in the America’s Cup World Series with the smaller AC45s for the past two years, ORACLE TEAM USA moved to the larger AC72 design—which features a dramatic wing sail and hydrofoils that reduce drag by lifting the boat out of the water—in their quest to defend their title in the America’s Cup finals in September.
