By the Numbers: Keste’s Center of Excellence proves the power of Oracle’s engineered systems.

To demonstrate how Oracle’s engineered systems work together to offer exceptionally fast application and database performance at significantly lower cost, Oracle Specialized Partner Keste operates a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Engineered Solutions. Featuring the Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, the CoE is the first of its kind.
“Customers can come and put their solutions on it, run it, and witness for themselves how they can benefit from a platform like this,” explains Howard Moore, CEO and cofounder of Keste.
Dallas, Texas–based Keste—which has already achieved Oracle Specialized status in Oracle Enterprise Content Management, Oracle Service-Oriented Architecture, Oracle Linux, Oracle Application Development Framework, and Oracle WebCenter—opened the CoE in the spring of 2011 as part of its effort to offer a complete line of Oracle solutions.
“We are positioning ourselves as trusted advisors to our customers and are investing in Oracle Exalogic and Oracle Exadata so customers are able to try them before they buy them,” Moore says.
A three-step proof-of-value (PoV) process takes about 30 days. First, Keste’s team members collect customer data, creating use cases and benchmarks on existing infrastructure. Next, they configure that data within the CoE environment. Finally, they measure performance with benchmark tests. Keste’s experts recommend that customers be involved in the lifecycle of the PoV to get maximum benefit from the exercise.
Customers receive a document of the required hardware and details of the performance gains they can achieve with Keste’s production infrastructure. “The document provides all the data required for customers to trust that this platform is truly going to help them in their production,” says Sri Ayyeppen, CTO and cofounder of Keste.
Our Oracle E-Business Suite system was six times faster compared to DJO’s current commodity production environment.
DJO Global, an international provider of high-quality medical devices for rehabilitation and pain management, was one of the first customers to try Keste’s PoV with both Oracle Exadata and Oracle Exalogic. With the company already live on Oracle E-Business Suite 12, Oracle service-oriented architecture solutions, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition, and Oracle Hyperion applications, DJO Global’s leadership was looking for new ways to improve system performance.
“Our data and reporting had grown, so performance was a compelling driver,” says Mark Farabaugh, vice president of IT, ERP Program Office, at DJO Global. “Keste has been a valuable partner for both software development and consulting, so it was only natural to use Keste for this PoV.”
To reflect real business scenarios, DJO’s team selected 40 use cases from Oracle E-Business Suite operations. The test was performed on Oracle Exalogic and Oracle Exadata systems, using an exact copy of DJO’s Oracle E-Business Suite production environment, including customizations and configurations.
“The PoV was comprehensive and complete, and it definitely solidified DJO’s interest and confidence in the technology,” says Farabaugh. “At an aggregate level, our Oracle E-Business Suite system was six times faster compared to DJO’s current commodity production environment, and reporting was on average 50 times faster.”
These results are exactly why Keste opened its CoE. “We are not a big sales and marketing company,” Moore says. “We put our money into execution and delivery. That is what sets Keste apart.”
