SQL Pattern Matching Is the Latest in a String of Oracle Big Data Innovations

The new SQL pattern matching feature of Oracle Database 12c is the latest in a series of innovations helping Oracle customers more quickly unlock the value currently hidden in big data.

"From in-database analytical capabilities to engineered systems such as Oracle Big Data Appliance, we are making it faster and simpler than ever to acquire, organize, and analyze big data and put it to work," says Rex Wang, vice president of technology software product marketing, Oracle.

Simplifying Row Pattern Matching Analysis with Native SQL Support
A new feature of Oracle Database 12c, SQL pattern matching brings the simplicity and efficiency of the most common data analysis language to the process of identifying patterns within a data set. It enables business users and data scientists to incorporate pattern enrichment into their existing analytical workflows—without complex, externally coded routines that increase network traffic and data latency.

"Pattern matching is about simplicity, ease, and finding patterns quickly. It offers significant system gains in terms of performance, maintainability, and scalability compared to the continued use of bespoke code embedded within applications and executed either on the client side or within the middle-tier application server," explains Wang.

Simplifying Hadoop Implementation
Organizations are aggressively looking to acquire, organize, and analyze big data in conjunction with traditional data sources to drive new business insights. To accelerate and simplify the implementation of big data solutions that are integrated with existing Oracle Database solutions, Oracle offers Oracle Big Data Appliance, which delivers enterprise Hadoop services out of the box, from networking and service layout to the automation of upgrades, installations, and security integration.

"The difference in total cost and implementation times between a production-ready, enterprise appliance and a custom Hadoop cluster is substantial," says Wang.

And to help customers get started, Oracle provides the Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 In-Rack Expansion, which allows organizations to scale their footprint quickly and cost-effectively as their data grows.
