Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 Delivers 2X More Performance

In March 2013, Oracle launched Oracle Database Appliance X3-2, which provides twice the performance and up to four times the storage compared to the original release of Oracle Database Appliance. The new release also offers comprehensive new support for virtualization.

Oracle Database Appliance delivers the Oracle Database in a single system that includes software, server, storage, and networking tools. Because all the components are engineered to work together, it dramatically simplifies deployment, maintenance, and support of database and application workloads.

2X More Performance with Up to 4X More Storage
The latest release doubles performance thanks to 512 GB of memory, 18 TB SAS disk storage, and 800 GB of flash memory—enough power to support online transaction processing (OLTP) as well as data warehousing.

Customers can instantly grow their data volumes simply by connecting an optional storage expansion shelf. No administration is required.

New Support of Virtualization
Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 customers can also choose the Virtualized Platform feature. Built on Oracle VM, it enables independent software vendors to package and ship a complete solution-in-a-box.

As a result, customers can quickly deploy database appliances in remote branch office locations where IT footprint and skills may be a challenge.

“The ability to install, deploy, and provision Oracle WebLogic Server together with Oracle Database on this device in less than two hours will give our customers unprecedented agility in getting new Java-based applications up and running in record time," says Howard Moore, chief executive officer of Keste, an Oracle Platinum Partner.

Capacity on Demand Licensing
Thanks to Oracle VM’s unique hard partitioning capabilities, organizations can also extend capacity on demand software licensing to all Oracle software. Because they can automatically pin the database and application VMs to specific cores, organizations pay only for capacity used by database and applications.

"The ability to provision additional cores and pay as they grow, coupled with the affordability of this appliance, makes it an attractive option for smaller to midsize companies," adds Moore.
