Simplify IT with Oracle Database Appliance X3-2: Get 2X More Performance and Up to 4X More Storage
In March 2013, Oracle launched Oracle Database Appliance X3-2, which
- Increases performance up to 2x and expands storage capacity up to 4x
- Hosts databases and application workloads for a variety of complete solutions in a box
- Extends capacity on demand licensing to all Oracle software
Oracle Database Appliance delivers Oracle Database in a single system that includes software, server, storage, and networking tools. Because all the components are engineered to work together, growing organizations can dramatically simplify deployment, maintenance, and support of database and application workloads.
And with the latest release, midsize organizations gain comprehensive new support for virtualization—plus capacity on demand licensing to all Oracle software.
"The ability to provision additional cores and pay as they grow, coupled with the affordability of this appliance, make it an attractive option for smaller to midsize companies," says Howard Moore, chief executive officer of Keste, an Oracle Platinum Partner.
2X More Performance, Up to 4X More Storage
The latest release doubles performance, thanks to 512 GB of memory, 18 TB SAS disk storage, and 800 GB of flash memory—enough power to support online transaction processing as well as data warehousing.
Just as important, growing organizations can instantly double their data volumes simply by connecting an optional storage expansion shelf. No administration is required.
Capacity on Demand Licensing
With Oracle Database appliance bare metal or Oracle VM’s unique hard partitioning capabilities, organizations can also extend capacity on demand software licensing. By enabling the number of cores or automatically pinning the database and application VMs to specific cores, organizations pay only for capacity used by database and applications—a major benefit for growing organizations.
New Support of Virtualization
To help companies expand their footprint at minimal cost, the Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 also includes an optional Virtualized Platform feature. Built on Oracle VM, it enables independent software vendors to package and ship a complete solution in a box. This enables customers to quickly deploy database appliances in remote branch office locations where IT footprint and skills may be a challenge.
“The ability to install, deploy, and provision Oracle WebLogic Server together with Oracle Database on this device in less than two hours will give our customers unprecedented agility in getting new Java-based applications up and running in record time," says Moore.
