Create the Future Java Workshops

Oracle is hosting one-day Create the Future Java workshops for children ages 13 and up on August 5, August 6, and August 7, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.at the Oracle Conference Center, 350 Oracle Parkway, Redwood Shores. Check in and breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. Lunch and laptops will be provided.

The workshops are free, but space is limited so registrations will be first come, first served. Please limit your registration to one workshop per child so we may accommodate many aspiring technologists!

Create The Future Java Alice Workshops

Taught by Oracle Academy instructors and Carnegie Mellon computer science professors, the one-day beginner and advanced* workshops will use the award-winning Alice visual 3-D educational tool. With a drag-and-drop interface, Alice is designed to help students learn the Java programming language by creating animations and games. Download and view Alice screencasts.

Create the Future Internet of Things Java and Raspberry Pi Workshop

Taught by Oracle Java Evangelist Stephen Chin, this limited capacity (100 spaces) workshop provides an opportunity to participate in a pilot program utilizing the Raspberry Pi device. Kids will learn to assemble a Raspberry Pi device and touchscreen, plus program changes to simple Java-based games.

Workshop Hours: Onsite check-in and continental breakfast starts at 8:30 am. Workshops run from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Lunch and afternoon snacks are provided.

Eligibility: Children ages 13 and up.

*Alice Advanced Workshop Pre-requisites: Prior use of Alice 3 software and successful completion of an Alice 3 animation. More specifically, the ability to create an animation scene using the scene editor, and, using the code editor, program the animation using conditional constructs (IF, Count) and keyboard controls. This session will build upon this knowledge to highlight the advanced concepts to create a scoring game.

Alice Beginner and Internet of Things Workshop Pre-requisites: None. No prior programming experience or laptop necessary. All the tools you need to start learning about Java will be provided.

The following two forms are required. Please bring completed forms to the event. You will not be allowed to attend without the signed forms.
