Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Release 3: Support for Oracle Database 12c, Oracle Cloud Application Foundation, and Advanced Capabilities for Private Clouds

Launched in July 2013, the latest release of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c delivers extensive investment in native cloud management—from enhanced tools for deploying and managing business applications to integrated hardware and software management for engineered systems.

Oracle also announced support for Oracle Database 12c management, and enhancements to the Oracle Enterprise Manager extensibility exchange and Oracle PartnerNetwork ecosystem for Oracle Enterprise Manager.

"As organizations are increasingly deploying cloud solutions, Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Release 3 advances the state of the art in cloud management," says Sushil Kumar, vice president Product Strategy and Business Development, Oracle.

Native Cloud Management for Oracle Cloud Application Foundation
The latest release includes key support for Oracle Cloud Application Foundation, which provides a unified platform across conventional and cloud environments. Consisting of Oracle WebLogic Server 12.1.2 and Oracle Coherence 12.1.2, Oracle Cloud Application Foundation integrates application server and in-memory data grid capabilities into a unified foundation for cloud computing.

To better manage this unified foundation, Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Release 3 offers

  • Richer management for cloud and engineered systems. Enhancements include simplified Oracle Exadata Database Machine management such as predefined plans for resource management and support for multirack configurations; new management capabilities for Oracle Exalytics, including guided discovery, personalized software dashboards, and routing topology usage; a consolidation planner tool for Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud; a chargeback capability that has been extended to support custom metrics; and much more.

  • Expanded middleware and application management capabilities. Enhancements include a management console combining Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle GlassFish Server, and Oracle Tuxedo in a single pane; the ability to patch several Oracle WebLogic Server domains in a single operation; better database diagnostics and configuration compliance for Oracle’s Siebel environments; and comprehensive performance analysis of user sessions.

  • Expanded ecosystem. The Oracle Enterprise Manager extensibility exchange now offers a catalog of more 125 extensions, including plug-ins and management connectors. And more than 600 partners have reached Oracle PartnerNetwork Specialized status for Oracle Enterprise Manager.

  • Enhancements to the underlying management framework. To drive administrator productivity, the latest release includes a Python-based command-line interface scripting capability, as well as enhancements to the system dashboard, security console, administrator entitlements, incident manager, and more.
