Oracle Acquires Endeca

On December 5, 2011, Oracle completed the acquisition of Endeca, a leading provider of best-in-class unstructured data management, Web commerce, and business intelligence solutions. Endeca is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Oracle.

The acquisition comes as the variety and volume of enterprise data continues to explode, including enterprise content and application data, social media, sensor data, and third-party feeds—all of which can contain potentially significant top- and bottom-line business value.

"The combination of Oracle and Endeca is extremely compelling in today's changing data environment. Endeca's innovative technology will allow us to integrate comprehensive unstructured data management into Oracle's engineered systems," says Thomas Kurian, executive vice president, Oracle.

Comprehensive Platform for Structured and Unstructured Data
According to Kurian, the combination of Oracle and Endeca is expected to create a comprehensive technology platform to process, store, manage, search, and analyze both structured and unstructured information.

Such a platform is expected to
  • Support powerful business intelligence tools to analyze structured and unstructured data together
  • Significantly extend the value of unstructured data as it is integrated into ERP, supply chain, CRM, EPM, Web commerce, and other specialized applications
