Oracle Endeca Information Discovery: Quickly Explore All Relevant Data

In the wake of its acquisition of Endeca in 2011, Oracle has launched Oracle Endeca Information Discovery a next-generation platform for provisioning data discovery applications across the enterprise. With Oracle Endeca Information Discovery, organizations can quickly explore all relevant data with tools that
  • Combine structured, semistructured, and unstructured data from disparate systems
  • Automatically organize information for search, discovery, and analysis
  • Rapidly assemble easy-to-use analysis applications
Why Information Discovery?
A number of key forces are converging to make information discovery a critical element of any enterprise BI strategy, according to Tobin Gilman, vice president, Business Analytics Product Marketing, Oracle.

First, the volatile economic climate creates less predictability and demands agility. At the same time, there has been huge proliferation of data, both structured and unstructured, from nontraditional sources such as social media, sensor data, surveys, and call center systems. Such data contains profitable insight, but the path to that insight is not always clear or obvious. And in fact, the data might include answers to questions that organizations have not yet thought to ask.

"Essentially, information discovery begins where traditional BI ends, providing business users with advanced yet simple-to-use data exploration and analysis tools to unlock hidden insight in disparate systems," explains Gilman.

For example, a marketing team is charged with determining what customers like about their products. They can find unexpected patterns when they are able to bring together data from their own customer warehouse, third-party consumer purchase data, and social media sources.

In the same way, an automotive manufacturer seeking to improve warranty management might find surprising solutions by exploring warehouse data in conjunction with industry safety data and unstructured claims data.

Best of Information Discovery, Best of BI
To make good on the potential of information discovery, Oracle Endeca Information Discovery gathers together structured, semistructured, and unstructured data sources on a single platform. Then it provides powerful, faceted navigation and search tools.

Key capabilities include
  • Rapid deployment. No predefined data model is required, reducing time and cost of deployment, and enabling rapid, iterative change.
  • Access to all relevant data sources. Integrate and explore information from data warehouses, enterprise applications, social media, call centers, claims systems, and other structured, semistructured, and unstructured data sources.
  • Consumer-oriented user experience. Intuitive interface, self-service functionality, interactive responses, and graphic results drive adoption and maximize value.
