Oracle Exalogic and Oracle Applications: Maximize Business Performance

Oracle Exalogic delivers extreme application performance—software and hardware running in perfect harmony. What you may not know is that these record-breaking systems were designed with Oracle Applications in mind. “The optimization for Java applications with Oracle WebLogic Suite is widely understood, but the value for Oracle Applications (both horizontal and industry-specific) is also really getting our customers excited,” said Mohamad Afshar, vice president, product management, Oracle.

Oracle Applications are supported, certified, benchmarked, and optimized on Oracle Exalogic. Using an engineered system provides a one-stop shop that can significantly reduce implementation and maintenance costs. These benefits accrue across the entire Oracle Applications environment, horizontally and vertically.

For example, on horizontal applications, higher throughput could translate to improved customer service or faster supply chain planning. Oracle’s PeopleSoft applications have undergone rigorous testing and benchmarking on engineered systems. A recent benchmark showed 10-fold scalability improvement in HR self-service capabilities, with a response time 3 times faster. The benchmark used 40,000 concurrent self-service users on a one-third rack Oracle Exalogic and one quarter rack Oracle Exadata system.

An example of a vertical application is the Oracle meter-to-cash solution for utilities providers. Smart meters are revolutionizing the utilities industry. They're also generating an avalanche of data, with the typical account producing 3,000 readings per month. As a result, utilities of all sizes are looking for cost-effective ways not just to manage this massive surge, but to leverage its tremendous potential business value. Oracle's integrated meter-to-cash solution running on Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is a proven combination that can process more than 1 billion interval readings per hour at the fraction of the cost of traditional solutions.

“Thanks to Oracle Exalogic, we’ve seen our utilities customers achieve faster, more accurate billing and reporting processes, gain deep insight into usage patterns, and uncover information to enhance network performance, ” says Afshar. “These results are truly groundbreaking, and indicative of the value that a system such as Oracle Exalogic can bring to business applications.”
