Real-Time Data Replication for the Cloud: Meet Oracle GoldenGate 12c

With its multitenant architecture and new features for easing database cloud deployment and manageability, Oracle Database 12c has changed the cloud infrastructure landscape. Now Oracle GoldenGate 12c delivers the best real-time, logical data replication for Oracle Database 12c, cloud environments, and beyond.

As described in the product release press announcement, Oracle GoldenGate 12c delivers extreme performance, simplified technology, and future-ready flexibility. One of Oracle GoldenGate’s key features is its support for Oracle Database 12c’s multitenant architecture, as well as other Oracle Database12c–specific features and data types. With its strong real-time bidirectional data replication capabilities, Oracle GoldenGate 12c helps companies consolidate mission-critical systems on to Oracle Database 12c without interrupting business operations, while powerful failback capabilities minimize risk.

Oracle GoldenGate 12c also provides the extreme performance and scalability that cloud environments require. The new integrated delivery capability for Oracle Database uses a lightweight streaming application programming interface developed exclusively for Oracle GoldenGate. Automatic, dependency-aware parallel delivery capabilities allow end users to easily configure the product, and a single delivery process simplifies deployment and provides a multifold performance increase.

Eva Dafonte Perez, deputy head for the Database Group at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (known as CERN) notes that in testing Oracle GoldenGate 12c with a large hadron collider application workload, it “performs five times faster compared to the previous Oracle GoldenGate version, and simplifies the management of a multitier replication environment.”

As part of its integration with Oracle Database, Oracle GoldenGate 12c also includes integration with Oracle Active Data Guard’s Fast-Start Failover feature, further enhancing its high-availability capabilities. And Oracle GoldenGate offers configuration options that enable real-time bidirectional data replication between databases hosted on premises and those hosted in the cloud.

For non-Oracle databases, Oracle GoldenGate 12c offers a new coordinated delivery capability. This feature orchestrates a number of background settings to simplify configuration and management in heterogeneous environments. Oracle GoldenGate 12c supports the latest versions of major databases, including Sybase 15.7, MySQL 5.6, MySQL Cluster 7.1 and 7.2, and more—making good on its commitment to support heterogeneous platforms.
