Gartner Names Oracle a Leader for Transportation Management
Gartner Inc. has placed Oracle Transportation Management in the leaders quadrant of its August 2012 report, “Magic Quadrant for Transportation Management Systems.”
Gartner Magic Quadrants position vendors within a particular market segment based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute on that vision. Built on a modern, flexible, internet based architecture, Oracle Transportation Management is a global transportation and logistics operations system that allows companies to minimize cost, optimize service levels, support sustainability initiatives, and create flexible business process automation within their transportation and logistics networks.
With a 26 percent share of worldwide software revenue for 2011, Oracle is also #1 in transportation management systems (TMS) vendor share, according to another Gartner report, “Market Trends: A Golden Opportunity in the Transportation Management System Market, 2012–2016.”
“With globalization of the marketplace, the adoption of TMS systems continues to grow,” says John Murphy, Oracle senior director of product marketing for transportation and logistics. “That’s because technology has helped make it easier for buyers in the procurement office to find new suppliers in different geographies, but transportation costs are often an afterthought. Transportation managers have to consider lead times and costs, while the value chain network may be constantly changing.”
Murphy adds that while cost has always been a concern for transportation managers, those challenges are exacerbated today by the larger number of new suppliers and carriers that make up many complex supply chains.
“Oracle provides one system to manage all transportation needs—everything from optimizing carrier selection to determining the best route for moving each shipment,” he says.
