Oracle Extends Deep Hardware Discounts for Education Customers

Oracle announced that is has expanded its pricing-discount program for its Sun hardware beyond global colleges and universities to now include K–12 institutions and nonprofit research organizations.

The Hardware from Oracle, Pricing for Education (HOPE) program offers discounts ranging from 30 to 60 percent for a wide variety of Sun servers and storage devices. HOPE discounts apply to x86-based Sun Fire and SPARC T Series and SPARC M Series servers, Sun storage units and storage arrays, StorageTek modular library systems, and other products. The available systems are aligned with the Oracle Optimized Solutions initiative, which delivers extreme performance from Oracle hardware and software. See a full list of products available through HOPE. A complete list of Oracle Optimized Solutions can be found here.

“This is an ongoing program that offers special discounts at levels that are not available to any other industry sectors,” says Cole Clark, Oracle’s global vice president for education and research industries.

The program is available to qualified institutions throughout the world via Oracle’s direct sales staff and channel partners. Sales organizations have the flexibility to tailor standard hardware configurations with additional memory, storage capacity, or other upgrades to meet the individual needs of each education or research group, Clark adds.

In related news, Oracle also announced that it is adding two new entries to the list of HOPE discounts—SPARC T4 servers, with next-generation SPARC processors, and Oracle Database Appliance, which offers preintegrated and tested software, servers, storage, and networking components in a single box. Oracle unveiled both products at the Oracle OpenWorld 2011 conference this past October.
