The Future of Development on Oracle with Oracle Application Development Framework

Oracle Application Development Framework is the standards-based, strategic framework for Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Fusion Applications.

“With the launch of Oracle Fusion Applications at the recent Oracle OpenWorld, Oracle Application Development Framework was placed squarely in the center of the map,” says Bill Pataky, Oracle vice president of product management. “Oracle Fusion Applications are written entirely in Oracle Application Development Framework—from customer relationship management to financials, human capital management, and more. That’s the power and flexibility that this technology is now bringing to the table. Oracle Application Development Framework is the glue that brings together our SOA, Oracle WebCenter, and business intelligence offerings into an integrated middleware development platform.”

Managers and developers have taken notice, and Oracle Application Development Framework is building a strong following within the developer community. “Go to an online job site and search for ‘ADF’ or ‘Fusion’ development expertise, and you’ll see what I mean. There is activity there from employers searching for Oracle Application Development Framework and Oracle Fusion Application experience,” Pataky notes. “Given Oracle’s ubiquity in the enterprise, it makes sense for developers to learn the latest key technologies that Oracle is offering—and Oracle supports them with free, popular tools such as Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse, which naturally support Oracle Application Development Framework.”

Built on top of Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE), Oracle Application Development Framework is designed to provide an integrated infrastructure solution for the various application layers and an easy way to develop on top of them. It includes a set of more than 150 standards-based Java Server Faces (JSF) components with built-in Ajax and HTML5 functionality. With these components, Web-deployed user interfaces can be developed with a level of functionality and interactivity previously reserved for thick-client applications. The components offer data interaction, data visualization, and encapsulated browser-side operations.

In terms of the latest technical trends, support for mobile is hot. “Who isn’t working on a mobile strategy?,” Pataky asks. “With Oracle Application Development Framework Mobile Client, you have a common programming model that is used for desktop, Web, and mobile application development.”

Oracle Application Development Framework is the future to developing for the Oracle platform, so what’s the best way to learn more? Free recorded seminars from Oracle are a great place to start, including the Oracle ADF Insider series of lectures and the new Oracle Learning Library, which has a new e-course on Advanced Oracle Application Development Framework.
