Larry Ellison: Oracle Database Cloud Service Is Key Differentiator

In a major strategy update, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison pointed to Oracle Cloud Platform Services, including Oracle Database Cloud Service, as key differentiators for Oracle’s broad cloud strategy.

Oracle Database Cloud Service delivers the full power and security of Oracle Database with all the advantages of cloud computing—including subscription-based, self-service access, and a highly reliable, scalable, and elastic environment.

"With this release, you can get a full-fledged slice of the Oracle Database in a matter of minutes," says Richard Greenwald, director of database cloud initiatives, Oracle.

Key features of the offering include
  • Full capabilities of Oracle Database, including SQL and PL/SQL support
  • Oracle Application Express, a proven declarative development environment
  • Instant deployment of applications in the cloud
  • Integrated world-class identity management and single sign-on
  • Prebuilt business productivity applications
Rapid Application Development
Oracle Application Express is a key component of Oracle Database Cloud Service. It provides a Web-based development environment with productivity tools such as wizard-driven declarative development—plus easy extensibility through SQL and PL/SQL.

More than 100,000 developers around the world already use Oracle Application Express to rapidly create and deploy enterprise applications on the Web.

Flexible Deployment
Oracle Database Cloud Service is a secure service built on state-of-the-art technology including Oracle Exadata and Oracle Exalogic that provides customers and partners with a reliable, high-performance infrastructure for developing and deploying essential business applications.

To protect investments, Oracle Database Cloud Service enables applications and RESTful Web services to be moved quickly to any other Oracle Database, whether on-premise or in other clouds. That means customers do not experience lock-in and can change course quickly as business or regulatory conditions change.

To protect and secure data, Oracle Database Cloud Service are built on state-of-the-art technology and with best practices that include triple mirroring of data, full system backup and restore, and best-of-breed physical and logical security.

And unlike many other cloud providers, Oracle keeps each customer's data separate. "Data is not comingled with other customer's data—a big difference from most of the other cloud offerings on the market," says Larry Ellison, Oracle CEO.
