Oracle Exadata Customers Speak About Real-World Value

IT leaders from Proctor & Gamble, Linkshare, Thomson Reuters, and other companies reveal how Oracle Exadata is helping them drive real-world business value.

Massive Performance Gains
Oracle Exadata customers report massive gains in performance, thanks to breakthrough technologies such as Oracle Exadata’s Smart Flash Cache and Smart Scan features, and Oracle Hybrid Columnar Compression.

"We're performing on average about 8 times better, but in some cases up to 20 or 30 times better, than the previous system, which was in four racks," explains Jonathan Levine, chief operating officer at Linkshare Corporation.

"We acquire vast amounts of information that in the past has taken many days to consume and publish. With Oracle Exadata, we are able to reduce that latency and have a truly current application within hours," adds Mike Atton, chief architect for legal products, Thomson Reuters.

Driving Down Costs
By leveraging hardware and software engineered to work together, Oracle Exadata helps customers simplify management and drive down costs.

"We now have a single appliance that takes care of hardware and software that is needed for business intelligence," explains Corrado Azzarita, associate director of IT development and operations, Proctor & Gamble. "This is an incredible simplification for our landscape, because we can move to a single partner instead of multiple partners owning the whole, end-to-end stack, and this has achieved tremendous cost reductions."

"It really hits you when you see that one rack go in your data center, and then you walk past your existing high-end SAN, which in our case takes four floor-to-ceiling racks. Then you walk past your farm of database servers, which will be rack after rack after rack. And then you see that one rack with everything bundled in there—it's pretty amazing," says Douglas Miller, director of global database development and operations, R.L. Polk & Co.

Transforming the Business
Thanks to exponential performance gains and dramatically simplified management, Oracle Exadata is also helping customers transform business processes—both within IT departments and across the larger business.

“Oracle provides a breakthrough business model for Proctor & Gamble. We're getting a total solution in a box. This is obviously reducing our cost, but it also increases the quality of the end-to-end product,” says Jim Fortner, vice president for IT Development and Operations at Proctor & Gamble.

"The performance improvements we measured after adopting Oracle Exadata for our point of sales and marketing measurement business intelligence solutions is ranging from 2 times to 20 to 30 times, which essentially allows us to analyze data that before we couldn't even think of analyzing," adds Azzarita.
