Oracle #1 in RDBMS Share

Gartner, Inc. released its 2011 worldwide RDBMS market share research based on total software revenues, Market Share: All Software Markets, Worldwide 2011 (March 2012), and Oracle remained first in worldwide RDBMS share in 2011 with a robust growth rate of 18.0 percent, exceeding the industry average of 16.3 percent. Oracle share grew from 48.2 percent to 48.8 percent.

Oracle’s growth rate also exceeded that of its closest competitors. In fact, the research numbers show that Oracle holds more revenue share than its seven closest competitors combined. Oracle’s RDBMS share also showed strong growth in emerging markets, according to Willie Hardie, vice president, Oracle Database product marketing.

Oracle’s growth reflects its continued status as a cornerstone product for many companies. By delivering functionality and ease of use, Oracle shows continued commitment to fostering customer success. Engineered systems such as Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Database Appliance deliver both high performance and ease of use, offering an attractive option to customers consolidating databases, moving to the cloud, or looking for robust data warehouse or business intelligence solutions.
