Oracle Unveils Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 2—Identity Management in the Age of Cloud, Mobile, and Social Computing

In July 2012, Oracle unveiled Oracle Identity Management 11g release 2, the next evolution of its Oracle Identity Management 11g platform, which includes a series of new features optimized for mobile, social, and cloud computing.

The new release also helps customers meet stringent regulatory mandates more efficiently by delivering the ability to easily and safely manage passwords for high-risk shared or administrative accounts.

The new launch comes as consumer use of smart phones and social media skyrockets and employees are increasingly using their own mobile devices to access corporate resources, which in turn makes it much more challenging for IT organizations to enforce and maintain their audit, compliance, and privacy requirements.

In response, Oracle Identity Management 11g release 2 provides an innovative platform that secures access from mobile devices and enables applications to consume social identities.

"Today’s enterprises are facing new identity management challenges—from allowing employees access to company resources via personal mobile devices, to granting customers access to their accounts using their social identities through social networking sites, to managing cloud infrastructures as though they were on-premise hosted applications—requiring a new level of identity management protection,” says Marc Boroditsky, vice president of Product Management, Oracle. “From a simplified user experience to next-generation functionality, Oracle Identity Management 11g release 2 dramatically simplifies the job of securing applications and data in the age of cloud, mobile, and social computing."

Oracle Identity Management solutions are organized into three key categories.

Identity governance. Oracle offers the most comprehensive identity and access governance solution to meet the compliance, governance, and security needs of organizations. The solution set is simpler than ever. It now includes a business-friendly, self-service, shopping-cart-style user interface that allows employees to quickly request new access to applications. It also offers new cloud application provisioning support, enhanced compliance reporting, multilevel certification, and a new tool to manage administrator and shared account passwords. In addition, IT users can easily customize the interface to satisfy business needs.

Complete access. Oracle Access Management Suite Plus is the most advanced security solution for securing applications, data, Web services, and cloud-based services. It delivers enhanced fraud detection, native mobile security, and mobile single sign-on for Android and iOS. In addition, it supports social sign-on (Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Twitter, LinkedIn), and REST API for custom application development and cloud sign-on. It also supports multiple identity stores, multiple data center configurations, and enhanced third-party integrations.

Directory services. Oracle Directory Services Plus is the industry’s only integrated directory solution proven for mission-critical deployments and designed to meet the needs of cloud, mobile, and social environments. It offers proximity and location-based services for social networking, plus preconfigured hardware and software for optimized performance of Oracle Unified Directory.

Privileged Account Management
Oracle now delivers privileged account management as part of its family of identity governance solutions to help enterprises secure access to privileged accounts by combining advanced, policy-based, and automated password management capabilities with comprehensive auditing and reporting features. The result: highly secure and simplified password administration, as well as streamlined identity compliance reporting.

Fully and seamlessly integrated into the Oracle Identity Management stack, privileged account management significantly reduces identity management costs, deployment times, and audit deficiencies.
