Oracle Targets Manufacturing Managers for New Mobile Apps

Think mobility and what often springs to mind is the sales rep, that quintessential road warrior whose job description includes almost constant travel. But a growing number of mobile apps are now being designed for manufacturing plant managers, who may not travel regularly but nevertheless spend much of the time away from their desks.

As a new breed of mobile workers move around the shop floor, they need ready access to vital information to keep production lines on schedule. “More and more manufacturers are realizing the new opportunities that come with mobilizing their shop floors,” says Anju Gupta, senior manager, Oracle supply chain applications. “New mobile applications targeted to supervisors, quality personnel, and other line staff help reduce the time spent looking for information by proactively pushing data to them from core ERP applications.” Having ready access to vital reports about production bottlenecks and exceptions can help supervisors resolve problems more quickly and with better alternatives.

To serve this group, Oracle is preparing mobile-enabled solutions for manufacturing supervisors based on Oracle Endeca Information Discovery. “Oracle’s core manufacturing suite has solutions such as Oracle Manufacturing Execution System for Discrete Manufacturing and Oracle Manufacturing Operations Center. The idea behind mobile apps using Oracle Endeca is to collate information and push it to supervisors to help them resolve production issues,” Gupta explains. Plus, as part of Oracle Advanced Procurement, managers can also approve purchase requisitions on the go.

In addition, Oracle E-Business Suite applications are now certified for the Apple platform’s Safari browser, which enables organizations to choose which components of the suite to deliver to mobile devices, she adds.

Also for mobile users is Oracle Fusion Tap, a native iPad application that runs off cloud-based enterprise applications and across Oracle Cloud application services. The solution helps users find and make connections with the right people at the right time, obtaining answers to questions quickly and removing roadblocks faster. Oracle Fusion Tap also enables secure access to actionable performance indicators and day-to-day management of their workforce and sales force automation tools.
