Oracle Introduces Oracle Retail Mobile Point-of-Service

To help retailers improve customer service and increase efficiency, Oracle recently introduced Oracle Retail Mobile Point-of-Service, a mobile extension of Oracle Retail Point of Service that enables store associates to serve customers on the sales floor where the decision to purchase is made.

New Imperative for Mobile Point-of-Service
Because it speeds and simplifies checkout and eliminates lines, mobile point-of-service (POS) has become increasingly popular among consumers and retailers.

Mobile POS keeps personnel circulating the store floor, talking with customers, improving the experience, and better representing the brand—rather than being stuck behind a counter. It also enhances efficiency, facilitates faster throughput, and reduces cost for retailers.

“Gartner research shows that retailers are extremely interested in mobile POS as a way to transform the checkout experience,” said Jeff Roster, Gartner research vice president. “As one of the four transformational forces that Gartner has defined as part of its Nexus of Forces research, mobility, including mobile POS, will be a key area for experimentation and investment for retailers going forward.”

Serving Customers on Their Terms
Oracle Retail Mobile Point-of-Service leverages Oracle Retail stores solutions so store personnel can

  • Process sales transactions for stock and service items
  • Apply automatic and manual promotions, markdowns, and discounts, including best deal and customer specific price
  • Accept tender such as credit, debit, and gift card
  • Print and e-mail receipts
  • Check in-store inventory
  • Look up product information
  • Activate gift cards
  • Suspend transactions for completion at the register

“Oracle Retail Mobile Point-of-Service provides the flexibility to serve customers on their terms and helps level the playing field between store associates and digitally enabled customers," says Mike Webster, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Retail.

Flexible and Built to Scale
Because Oracle Retail Mobile Point-of-Service is integrated with Oracle Retail stores solutions, it helps ensure streamlined upgrades, and consistent business logic and transaction processes across the entire suite.

In addition, Oracle Retail Mobile Point-of-Service is built on a scalable and flexible architecture that allows any combination of fixed and mobile checkout points. And because it supports multiple mobile operating systems and devices—including Apple iPod Touch and VeriFone PAYware Mobile Enterprise—retailers are not locked in to specific vendors.
