New Oracle Retail Reference Library Accelerates and Maximizes Retail Implementations
In June 2013, Oracle Retail launched the new Oracle Retail Reference Library, a collection of detailed implementation content that helps customers accelerate implementations and derive maximum value from Oracle Retail solutions.
Available via My Oracle Support at no charge to Oracle Retail customers, the Oracle Retail Reference Library includes the following.
- Retail reference model. The reference model is a comprehensive collection of established, industry-leading business processes that guide retailers and implementers through the use of Oracle Retail applications.
- Retail reference architecture. The reference architecture provides different views of Oracle Retail’s solution offerings, including contextual models, integration models, and deployment models.
- Retail semantic glossary. The glossary provides definitions for both retail terms and key performance indicators to help drive alignment and consistency across the retail solution.
"By gathering all this information into one place, we simplify processes and ensure all parties involved in implementations are aligned and operating from the same page—which helps move us toward the ultimate goal of successful implementations," explains David Dorf, Oracle’s senior director of Retail Technology Strategy.
Work in Visio
Rather than relying on specialized proprietary software, the new Oracle Retail Reference Library enables retailers to manage their retail processes with Microsoft Visio, a commonly available tool.
"Besides making the process less expensive, reliance on Visio also reduces iterations at the time of implementation, since business users can communicate their needs more quickly and clearly with IT," says Dorf.
Breadth and Depth
Many companies charge a separate license fee for the kind of documentation available in the Oracle Retail Reference Library. And yet no one else can provide the same breadth or depth of detail.
On one hand, the Oracle Retail Reference Library provides executives and architects a big-picture view of processes—for example, enterprise-level context models and end-to-end business processes.
And at the same time, architects, analysts, and implementers get vital details about day-to-day operations, including domain context models, logical architecture models, physical deployment models, integration architecture models, and start-to-finish event-driven process chain models.
