Introducing Oracle Unified Directory 11g

Released in July 2011, Oracle Unified Directory 11g unifies storage, synchronization, and proxy capabilities—making it an ideal solution for both on-premise and cloud computing environments.

Oracle Unified Directory 11g is now available at no extra cost for customers that license Oracle Directory Services Plus. In addition, early adopters receive full engineering support as they upgrade from Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition.

Beyond Fragmented Solutions
Until now, the directory market has been defined by fragmented offerings, which inevitably leads to increased costs and complexity. Oracle Unified Directory 11g changes the equation by bringing all the key capabilities into a single, integrated product.

Together with Oracle Virtual Directory and Oracle Directory Integration Platform, Oracle Unified Directory 11g provides directory service that uniquely combines the services of a virtual directory, meta directory, and data storage capability.

"Carriers no longer have to compromise between speed and rich features," explains Clayton Donley, senior director, Oracle Identity Management. "A single directory can serve the needs of the enterprise and the extranet, even as it scales to provide quality of service."

Extreme Write Performance
Because mobile and cloud computing utilize dynamic user data such as location and presence information to achieve personalization, write performance is more important than ever.

To achieve unprecedented horizontal scalability, Oracle Unified Directory 11g includes global index and data distribution capabilities. At the same time, high-scale authentication performance can serve billions of users, subscribers, and devices.

"With Oracle Unified Directory 11g, our customers can achieve elastic scalability by dynamically adding building blocks without rearchitecting their solutions to support exponential business growth," says Donley.

Other benefits include
  • Smaller footprint for easier deployment and management
  • Zero down time for customers migrating from Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition
  • Full integration with Oracle Fusion Middleware
  • Simplified management via Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control and Oracle Directory Services
