New Design Tool Brings Drag-and-Drop Simplicity to Self-Service Mobile Business Intelligence Apps

Launched in August 2013, the new Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile App Designer is enabling business users to quickly create stunning, interactive analytical applications for use on any mobile device—without writing a single line of code.

Thanks to a simple browser-based, drag-and-drop design interface, users can instantly combine content from multiple sources to create graphs, tables, and dashboards.

"Now, creating professional mobile analytical applications is as easy as working with common office productivity tools," says Paul Rodwick, vice president of product management, Oracle. "This greatly expands the opportunities for companies to deploy analytics broadly to everyone, everywhere.”

Zero Additional Development
A component of Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile and integrated with Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite, the new tool extends the value of existing Oracle Business Intelligence environments by empowering business users to create apps tailored to their own interests and expertise, including

  • Sales pipeline analysis and forecasting
  • Detailed customer profile briefing books
  • Inventory tracking
An intuitive toolbar menu provides easy access to rich formatting capabilities, so users can combine text and images to create executive briefing books, dashboards, graphs, tables, and catalogs.

After creating a mobile app, users can instantly preview it via a web-based mobile simulator—or simply scan a quick response code to run it instantly on their mobile device of choice. Automatic rendering ensures visualizations remain optimal for a variety of screen sizes. And touch and swipe gestures power interactive analysis, enabling users to drill down and explore visualizations directly from their mobile devices.

Enterprisewide Sharing
Once users have created a new app, they can quickly share it with others across the organization via the apps library feature. Those who subscribe to an app receive updates, ensuring everyone across the organization is consuming the most up-to-date information.

To enforce enterprisewide security, the apps library leverages the same security model as Oracle Business Intelligence applications, eliminating the extra overhead required to separately provision and manage user security. And when paired with Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine, mobile business intelligence deployments can easily scale to tens of thousands of users.
